Verreynne dove and got it one handed. It melted into his hand.

Travis Head stands there for a moment. Is he going to review this or is this disappointment? He knows his fate.

    Head c Verreynne b Jansen 11 (Aus 67-4)

South Africa get their fourth wicket!

The dynamic Travis Head tickles one down the leg-side from Marco Jansen and Kyle Verreynne takes an excellent one-handed catch, diving to his right.

It's been South Africa's session. And that's lunch.

Mulder has been impressive. If you are looking at those paces you would say he's an 80 mph player but now he's 80-84 mph. Those couples of extra mph makes such a difference.

  • Aus 67-3published at 23 overs

A couple of dicey moments for Steve Smith, who's beaten by one from Mulder and nearly plays onto his stumps.

Australia can't lose another before lunch.

Australia are now in the same position as England were when Andrew Strauss retired. They spent so long looking for a replacement that Alastair Cook was pretty much done too. Then Baz came in, scrapped the whole exercise and we got Crawley and Duckett. Could Australia benefit from the same approach?

It's a fair decision that. It didn't look out in real time.

  • Not out - Aus 66-3published at 22 overs

Umpire's call on height - it was just clipping the top of leg stump. Smith survives.

Wiaan Mulder will continue from the Nursery End.

It's high. I think at best it is going to be umpire's call.

  • South Africa reviewpublished at 22 overs

Marco Jansen and South Africa are convinced that they've trapped Steve Smith lbw.

The umpire says not out. Temba Bavuma reviews.

  • Aus 66-3published at 21.3 overs overs

Steve Smith s in on the fun. He picks up a driven three - Temba Bavuma chased the ball to the rope to save one - and cuts another for four.

Will we see Rabada back soon?

As a South African I’m so proud to see us performing on the biggest stage. There has been so much talk not deserving to be the final because of the matches we’ve played but I think the critics are a bit silenced now. If we can get another one before lunch I will be delighted!

This is compelling cricket and good Test cricket today.

  • Aus 58-3published at 21 overs

Travis Head has injected some impetus into Australia's innings. It's early days but he's picking the gaps nicely.

His arrival will have woken the scoreboard operator up.

Even in the last WTC final, India had Australia three down for not many in the first innings. However Smith and Head then both scored massive hundreds and took the game away. I wouldn't put a repeat performance beyond them. South Africa need to break this partnership soon.

That's where Head likes it and most batters like it.

  • Aus 53-3published at 20 overs

Fifty up for Australia in the 20th over and a very good call from Alastair Cook.

Travis Head's innings is quickly under way. A crunched four to finish Marco Jansen's over is particularly delightful. Six from it.

    Thanks Matt.

When I was at university, there was a photoshoot involving chickens. I learned that day that chickens will pose for a camera if you hold a piece of broccoli where you want them to look.

It's not relevant to the rooster/cricket chat but it popped into my head.
